Availability is not visibility
Shopify can make eligible products available through its agentic storefronts. That does not tell you whether your brand appeared for “best navy running shorts,” whether ChatGPT cited your product page, or whether Gemini preferred a competitor yesterday.
Shopify lists ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Meta as agentic channels. OpenAI says ChatGPT selects products according to the shopper’s query and context, and not every available product is shown. Shopify documentation · OpenAI selection details
Build the prompt set
Track the questions that could produce a sale
A branded prompt only confirms that an AI can repeat your name. Include category, feature, comparison, and named-product questions. For a running apparel store, that might mean “best running shorts for hot weather,” “navy shorts with a secure phone pocket,” and a direct comparison with the product shoppers already know.
Keep the wording and market context stable when comparing runs. A changed prompt is a changed test.

“Who appeared instead?” is often the useful question
For each prompt, record competing brands and products alongside your own result. Then calculate coverage only across the defined prompt set. If Northstar appears in 11 of 18 recorded answers, that is 61% observed coverage—not 61% of all AI shopping searches.
Review cited sources too. A competitor mention backed by an independent review suggests a different next step than a result pulled from the competitor’s own product page.
Measure change carefully
AI search has observations, not permanent positions
ChatGPT can use query context, Memory, and custom instructions when selecting products. Product information and prices can also arrive with delays. Other AI experiences have their own retrieval and presentation systems. Run the same prompt repeatedly and label the exact model or surface tested. OpenAI explains the variability.
A trend across a stable sample is useful. It still does not prove that one description edit caused the change. Preserve the original answers so a human can check what moved.

Automate the repeatable part
Dropstore runs the prompt set while you run the store
Connect a Shopify store, save the buying prompts that matter, and run them daily across OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. Dropstore keeps the responses, citations, brand mention status, observed answer position, and history together.
The full answer remains visible for product-level review and competitor analysis. Dropstore does not claim to reproduce every consumer interface—including Google AI Mode—or turn variable outputs into a universal rank.
